For Patients

Pre-admission

Pre-admission is an important part of your hospital care.

For patients receiving General Anaesthetic and Intravenous Sedation, we recommend that prior to admission you consider the following:

  • You have someone to collect and accompany you home after the procedure.  It is also important that you have arranged for a responsible adult to be with you at home for a period of time following your discharge.
  • You will need to consider how you will manage daily activities, such as personal care, meals, shopping etc after discharge.
Important information:
  • You are not permitted to drive for at least 24 hours after a general anaesthetic.
  • You should be accompanied by a relative or friend from hospital to home and it is the expectation of Windsor Private Hospital that a competent adult will stay with you overnight following discharge.
  • You should not operate machinery, schedule any important meetings or sign legal papers for at least 24 hours after your procedure.
  • Check with your Nurse / Doctor about continuing medication, follow-up appointments etc.
  • Please collect any X-rays or medications brought with you on admission.

This requires some thought, planning and involvement of family and friends. It may be appropriate to discuss the timing of your surgery with your support people to ensure that they are available.  It is often possible to schedule surgery at a more convenient date and this should be discussed with your doctor.

If you need further guidance in this matter, please contact the hospital on (03) 9520 9520.

You will receive a phone call from our nurse, to discuss with you when you are to finish eating and drinking prior to your surgery.  Your anaesthetist will have specific instructions to be followed.

Local Anaesthetic patients will arrive at scheduled appointment time.  No specific instructions required prior to admission.
